Summary

Under general direction, position is responsible for providing patient nursing services such as immunizations, well child and well adult check-ups, tuberculosis testing, lead testing and flu clinics. Evaluates the level of care and ensures customer satisfaction; carries out Public Health prevention and intervention initiatives, as assigned, related to the following Public Health concerns: unintended pregnancy, infectious disease, obesity, tobacco, oral health, mental health and substance abuse. Provides community outreach Public Health nursing services and health education activities aimed at the promotion of healthy families and communities and the prevention of disease.  Emphasizes infectious disease prevention and control, health promotion activities, maternal-child health, community assessment and coalition building around public health issues, and public health emergency preparedness. A sound knowledge of the philosophy, principles, and practice of public health is required. Position in general exercises considerable judgement by managing all aspects of clinic operations. 

Qualifications

Grade 36:  Licensed Practical Nurse from an accredited college; or two (2) to four (4) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Grade 37:  Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited four-year college or university; or two (2) to four (4) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Requirements

Valid and current Colorado Driver’s License.  Current Colorado Registered Nursing License required.  CPR Certification required.  Red Cross CPR/First Aid Instructor Certification preferred, but not required. 

MUST PROVIDE COPY OF CURRENT/ACTIVE NURSE LICENSE AND COLLEGE TRANSCRIPTS AT TIME OF APPLICATION.

Overview of Overdose Crisis

The opioid crisis is a significant nationwide public health concern, with opioid overdose deaths almost quadrupling between 2010-2021. Colorado lost 1,799 residents due to drug overdose in 2022 alone. Region-15: Chaffee, Custer, Fremont, and Park Counties witnessed overdoses similar to those across the state.
