Conserving Water While Maintaining Roads

There have been concerns by Fremont County residents about the water used for roadway maintenance during such drought conditions.

While we are conserving water as much as possible, it is necessary to apply water to the roads for some of the more critical operations-such as dust suppressant and major blading/grading operations.  Water preserves the gravel on the road and holds the road together both during and after blading, as well as keeping the dust down.  If water was not used while blading, we would be sending our crews back out to blade the next day-thereby wasting even more manpower and equipment hours.   We are not using the water merely as a dust suppressant-which would be wasteful.  We are mindful of the issue and are conserving our resources and budget dollars as best we can.  Anyone wishing to discuss road issues or concerns may contact FCDOT directly at 275-2047.
