The public is invited to a Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) open house in Cañon City Wednesday evening, December 7th, regarding the upcoming widening of State Highway 115 (9th Street) between Short Street and Barium Avenue at the south edge of Cañon City.
Representatives from CDOT and Caňon City will be on hand for questions and comments regarding impacts to local traffic, residents, and businesses while construction is underway. In addition to widening the road, the project includes construction of a roundabout at the 9th Street--Elm Avenue intersection, storm sewer improvements, new sidewalks, curbs and gutters, and retaining walls.
Construction is scheduled in 2013 and expected to take approximately seven months. Several detours will be required to handle traffic during the construction period. CDOT will coordinate traffic flow as best possible to aid businesses that will be affected along 9th Street. While a detour will be in place through Lincoln Park, the Fremont County Department of Transportation hopes to minimize the impact of traffic on those neighborhood streets. All truck traffic will be encouraged to use an alternate route on MacKenzie Avenue during the construction period.
The public informational meeting will be held on Wednesday, December 7, at City Hall at 128 Main Street in Caňon City, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Design drawings of the project and maps of the planned detours will be available for inspection. Residents and businesses of the Lincoln Park area who will be affected by the project are encouraged to attend the meeting.
