Dust Suppressant Operations

The Fremont County DOT will be conducting dust suppressant operations beginning May 4, 2026 and going thru the end of May. Signs and flaggers will be in place alerting the traveling public of roadwork in progress. You are encouraged to exercise caution while traveling thru the posted roadways during operations. Expect delays while traffic is directed thru the work zones. Planned roadways are: CR69, CR143, CR80, CR77, CR84, CR103, CR106, CR19, CR110, CR132, Fourmile Lane, CR127, and CR129. There is not a set schedule for each roadway, as some roads may take longer than others. Please plan accordingly for your commute and share with anyone who may need this information. We appreciate your patience and understanding as our crews work to complete spring roadway maintenance for our citizens!


Fremont County Electronics Recycling Event

Taking Electronics, Latex Paint, and Appliances
[excluding those with Freon or refrigerant]
Cost is $30 per item for televisions and CRT Computer Monitors.
All other items are free.
*No lightbulbs, old thermostats with mercury, CO2 detectors, or smoke/fire alarms will be taken.*


Request for Proposals: HVAC Rooftop Unit Replacement

Fremont County is seeking proposals from qualified mechanical contractors for a turnkey Design-Build project to replace five (5) large commercial rooftop units at the Fremont Combined Court / Judicial Center (136 Justice Center Road, Canon City, CO).
This project is supported by a grant from the Underfunded Courthouse Facility Cash Fund Commission, administered by the Colorado State Court Administrator’s Office.

The project includes all engineering, permitting, equipment procurement, and installation. A mandatory site visit and pre-bid meeting is scheduled for April 14, 2026, at 9:00 AM at the project site. A 5% Bid Bond or certified check is required with all proposals. The successful bidder will be required to provide 100% Performance and Payment Bonds. This project is subject to Colorado Labor Preference (C.R.S. § 8-17-101) and, if the contract exceeds $500,000, Colorado Prevailing Wage requirements.

Fremont County reserves the right to reject any or all proposals and to waive informalities or irregularities.


2026 Fremont County Clean Up Campaign

Fremont County will be offering a limited number of trash vouchers for free disposal of household trash, furniture, construction debris, brush, logs, leaves, and yard waste will be available on a first-come, first-served basis to Fremont County residents beginning on March 16th and ending on April 30th. Trash vouchers are good for free disposal of 500 pounds at Twin Enviro Services/Apex Waste Solutions “Phantom Landfill” at 2500 Fremont County Road 67 (north of the airport), Penrose.

Fremont County residents may pick up a voucher from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Thursday at Fremont County Department of Public Health and Environment, 201 N 6th St, Cañon City. Proof of residency is required when obtaining a voucher. Only one voucher will be issued per household. Free disposal will end on April 30, 2026, at 3:30 p.m.
