The Fremont County Commissioners view operations in the control center of the newest section of the Fremont County Jail with Sheriff Jim Beicker and his staff
The Fremont County Commissioners toured the Fremont County Jail recently with Sheriff Jim Beicker and Undersheriff Ty Martin as part of their statutory duty under Colorado law to manage a county jail. While learning that while the numbers of inmates are dropping that fact could impact jail revenues if the number of Department of Corrections’ parolees also drops. Sheriff Beicker relies on revenue from housing inmates on state parole holds to help fill bed space in the new section of the jail which was just opened several years ago.
Undersheriff Martin also provided the commissioners with a detailed breakdown of capital expenditures that may be required in the jail to improve aging security equipment. Extensive improvements are needed in closed circuit video monitoring and computer equipment, electronic door controls, and intercoms. The price tag is expected to exceed a half million dollars. The commissioners are expected to discuss the capital expenditure options this August and September when they begin review of the proposed 2013 county budget.
