The owners of Shadow Hills Golf Course and Restaurant again hold the liquor license for their operation. The Fremont County Board of Commissioners approved a hotel and restaurant liquor license at their September 9th meeting for Holt Family Recreation LLC doing business as The View at Shadow Hills.
The Holt family was issued the original liquor license for the establishment when they purchased the property in 2010. Last January the liquor license was transferred to the lessee of the restaurant and bar. But when the lessee severed ties with the restaurant and golf course several months ago it left the Holts without a liquor license to continue operations. Eventually the lessee surrendered their liquor license to the State of Colorado which allowed the Holts to pursue a temporary liquor license so the bar and restaurant could get back in operation. The final unanimous approval by the Board of Commissioners for a new liquor license meant that liquor sales were firmly put back under the control of the owners of Shadow Hills.
The Commissioners also approved a proclamation at their September 9th meeting designating Monday, September 22nd, as Gold Belt Tour Scenic and Historic Byway Day in Fremont County. The day will be marked with the Board of Commissioners and other local officials taking part in a day long tour of the Gold Belt Scenic Byway through Fremont and Teller Counties. Gold Belt Chairwoman Charlotte Bumgarner of Guffey noted to the Board that the Gold Belt Byway runs for a distance of 131 miles through the two counties. In Fremont County that includes Phantom Canyon, the Shelf Road and Red Canyon Road, and the High Park Road.
In other business the Board of Commissioners:
- Approved a change of operator for the Conditional Use Permit for the Red Canyon Quarry just south of the Fremont-El Paso County line from Red Canyon Quarry to Rocky Mountain Materials and Asphalt. Rocky Mountain has always operated the gravel quarry and will now also be the permit holder;
- Heard a complaint from Ken Hill of Penrose who wants the county to install a box culvert on 3rd Street in Penrose at a location where extensive flooding occurred one year ago. Hill complained that a concrete cross pan for a low water crossing on the road would not be sufficient to handle the problem. Federal Emergency Management Funds will be used for the improvements once everyone agrees on a solution;
- Scheduled a special Board of Commissioners meeting on Monday, September 29th at 9:00 a.m. for the consideration of a bid award for renovations to the former Garden Park School Building and space in the Human Services Building now occupied by Fremont County Public Health. Public Health will relocate to the former Garden Park building early in 2015 while the Department of Human Services will expand their offices into what is now the Public Health space.
