New District 1 Commissioner Tim Payne signs his oath of office certificate after being sworn in by Judge David Thorson
District 3 Commissioner Ed Norden was joined by his wife Janice for the swearing-in ceremony. Norden noted the day also marked their 41st wedding anniversary.
In a brief ceremony this morning in the Board of Commissioners’ meeting room county officials who were elected last November were sworn into office. Fremont County District Court Judge David Thorson administered the oath of office to new District 1 County Commissioner Tim Payne. Payne succeeds Mike Stiehl in the District 1 seat after Stiehl served two terms in office. Commissioner Ed Norden took the oath of office for a third term as District 3 County Commissioner. This marks the first time in 30 years that a commissioner was elected to a third term. The last Commissioner to serve three terms was Roy Canterbury in District 3.
Judge Thorson also administered the oath of office to Carlette Brocious who was appointed by the Board of County Commissioners as the new Fremont County Coroner to replace Dr. Dorothy Twellman who decided to retire at mid-term. The Coroner’s seat is set to come up for election again in the 2014 election cycle.
