Summary

This position serves as a light and heavy duty automotive and equipment service technician.  Duties involve preventative maintenance, diagnostic services, repair and maintenance of the County fleet and heavy-duty equipment. 

Performs skilled work in the repair and maintenance of County vehicles and equipment.

Identifying and diagnosing malfunctions to determine necessary repairs on light and heavy-duty vehicles and equipment.  Use of a computerized diagnostic tool may be required.

Repair of light and heavy-duty systems may include, but are not limited to, overhaul of gas and diesel engines, carburetors and differentials, re-pack wheel bearings, repair hydraulic systems, install clutches, and overhaul pumps.

Performs preventive maintenance and care on County vehicles and equipment including greasing, changing oil, checking lights, brakes, hoses, tires and belts.

Performs corrective maintenance on County vehicles and equipment to determine the need and priority of minor and major repairs.

Plans maintenance and repairs using available resources such as charts, owner’s manuals, technical manuals or the internet.

Conducts testing of parts and systems to ensure proper functionality. 

Maintains records for each job repair on all vehicles and equipment using a computerized system.

Operates vehicles and equipment to conduct road tests, travel to job sites and bring into or remove from the shop.

Ensures the work area is clean, orderly and efficient for conducting maintenance and repair by cleaning parts, tools and work area.

Performs welding and machine work incidental to the completion of repair work.

Assists in maintaining a shop inventory, ordering parts and supplies. Performs all other work as assigned by the Fleet Service Supervisor.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience:  Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from an accredited two-year college or technical

school; or six (6) months to one (1) year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and 

experience. 

Additional Requirements

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:  Valid Colorado Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A with a tanker endorsement required.

Performs other duties as assigned to meet department needs.
