Recycling Options in Fremont County:

Howard Disposal & Recycling, 719-275-6955

Offers curbside service for customers (fee based, $29.00/quarter in 2021) and free drop-off service for all residents.

Free recycling is available to all community members at Fawn Hollow Transfer Station, 645 McDaniel Blvd, Cañon City. 

  • Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
  • Acceptance of plastics (#1 & 2), cardboard, newspaper, steel/tin/aluminum cans, paper egg cartons. Soda carrier boxes, empty aerosol cans, office paper, magazines and junk mail, phone books, brown paper bags, paper board and paper towel/toilet paper tubes
  • DO NOT accept glass or plastic bags
  • Note:  BINS are available for cardboard only on Oak Creek Grade Road just south of the Oak Creek Grade and Elm Avenue intersection; behind American Liquor at 628 Royal Gorge Blvd

Offers curbside recycling service to its customers (fee based, $16.98/month in 2021) and other community members can bring recyclables to the Phantom Canyon Landfill, 2500 County Road 67, Penrose (fee based, $15.00/500 pounds in 2021).

  • Landfill is open Monday – Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. unless high winds
  • Acceptance of newspaper, mixed/office paper, phone books, junk mail, plastics (#1-7), cereal and tissue boxes, yogurt/butter tubs, waxed milk cartons, empty aerosol cans, corrugated cardboard, pie tins, brown paper bags, steel/tin/aluminum cans, foil, vitamin bottles, detergent bottles, plastic milk jugs and glass jars.
  • DO NOT accept plastic grocery bags.
  • Offers recycling of televisions and computer monitors for $1.55 per diagonal inch. 

Arkansas Riverwalk

The City of Cañon City has receptacles stationed along the Riverwalk for recycling of plastic grocery bags to be used by pet owners for picking up waster.

Humane Society of Fremont County

HSFC accepts soda cans for recycling as a donation; newspapers to be used in feline cages.

  • 110 Rhodes Avenue, Cañon City
  • Monday – Friday, 10:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. & Saturday, 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
  • Cans can be dropped off any time of the day near the shelter’s garage door.
  • Newspapers can be dropped off during operating hours.

Tiger Recycling

  • Tiger Recycling offers hands-on work experience and helps students with disabilities develop school to work skills. This business within the high school provides opportunities to learn skills related to disassembling electronics and sorting parts. Plus, recycling electronics helps protect our environment. We promote the practice of reducing, reusing, re-purposing, and recycling.
  • Tiger Recycling can recycle anything that you can plug into an electrical outlet except refrigerators, freezers, and air conditioners. Please do not leave items outside our door. All items recycled must be weighed and documented.  This program is fee based.
