Fremont County Public Health

The Fremont County Department of Public Health and Environment invites community members to participate in an Impaired Driving Data Walk on Thursday, December 12, 2024, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM at 201 N. 6th St., Cañon City, CO. in the Garden Park Conference Room. This open house-style event offers a unique opportunity to engage in discussions, access valuable resources, and contribute to building a safer community.

The event is free and open to the public. Attendees will have the chance to participate in engaging activities and interactive discussions, designed to gather community input on impaired driving. This input will help shape local strategies for improving road safety and preventing impaired driving incidents.

Highlights of the event include:

  • Interactive activities and meaningful discussions to share your experiences and ideas.
  • Valuable resources and information to learn about impaired driving prevention.
  • A $25 gift card drawing for participants who attend and engage in the event.

Community members are encouraged to bring family, friends, and coworkers to join the conversation and collaborate on solutions for this critical issue.

Fremont County DOT

There will be a one-lane road closure today, December 10, 2024, at the intersection of Ash & Poplar, for the east lane.  Tree limbs will be removed from 9:00 am to 10:00 am.  Delays are expected, so please plan accordingly for your commute.

Grandview Bridge Project Update

The bridge construction is complete excluding minor final punch list items. The Contract end date is today,11/26/24. The final walk through was conducted yesterday Monday November 25th with County staff, City Water, Engineering Consultant staff, and prime contractor representatives present.

 

 Punch list items were all minor but include clean-up of debris (to be completed by today); survey and marking of property line for landowner on northwest side of bridge (estimated to occur in the next 2 weeks); addition of a delineator (already completed), additional hot asphalt mix around several guardrail posts (when asphalt becomes available inext 3 weeks), and grading of dirt along edge of asphalt on street north east of the bridge (estimated completion today). Seeding and mulching of disturbed ground is complete. 

 

The contractor has repaired and graded the neighboring business owner’s parking lot and entrance onto street which was used as turnaround for trucks and equipment. Landowner and County access gates and fencing installation is complete. 

 

There will be a Ribbon Cutting at 330pm today at the Grandview Bridge and the road will officially open immediately after.

Grandview Bridge Project Update

  • The contractor has requested and been approved a contract end date extension to 11/22 due to factors beyond their control including high creek water during pier construction, unexpected obstacles encountered during excavation and installing increased fence quantities requested by a neighboring landowner. 
  • The remaining work includes roadway subgrade preparation, installation of a waterproof membrane over the bridge deck (temperature dependent), roadway asphalt paving, painting of exterior girders, abutments, and pier, installation of delineators, guardrail, and striping (temperature dependent), and installation of fencing and gates.

Colorado’s Mobile Public Health Clinic will be in Cotopaxi on Friday November 22, 2024 from 10am – 4 pm at the Cotopaxi Consolidated Schools. MyCOBenefits SNAP EBT Mobile App

The Fremont County Department of Human Services would like to bring awareness to our citizens regarding the MyCOBenefits SNAP EBT mobile phone app. This app can be found on the Google Play store for Android and the app store for iPhones. This app, called ebtEDGE, can help protect your benefits, and can be used to:

  • Freeze your card when not in use
  • Change your PIN
  • Block out of state purchases
  • Block online/internet purchases
  • Check your balance and transaction history

Information can be found on the Fremont County Department of Human Services Facebook page, Fremont County website (FremontCountyco.gov) or a copy can be picked up at the Department during business hours. Grandview Bridge Project Update

  • The City water line has been successfully installed, disinfected, and pressure tested. 
  • The bridge approach slab concrete pour is scheduled for this Wednesday. (Photo 1)- The approach slab will be poured against the bridge deck and tied to the deck with the protruding rebar shown. The ‘sleeper slab’ has been poured and will reside underneath the approach slab. See concrete forms in the foreground.) 
  • Remaining work: finishing the roadway embankment construction, which is basically raising the grade of the roadway above the level of the existing surrounding ground surface; roadway subgrade preparation; installation of waterproof membrane over bridge deck, which provides protection against corrosion; roadway paving; installing guardrails, striping, and fencing. (See Photo 2) – Unfinished Roadway Embankment. 
  • The expected construction end date is still November 7,th, although there are many tasks that still need to be completed. 

Veterans Day

We will be honoring our Veterans that work for the County at our November 12th BOCC meeting. In addition we will be providing a luncheon for them following our meeting. We have 30 Veterans employed with Fremont County and we are very proud and honored to have such a large number of Veterans that choose to work as public servants for our community.

Grandview Bridge Project Update

  • The bridge deck was poured on Friday, October 4th. It must be cured for 14 days before any significant work on or loading of the bridge can occur. 
  • The City water line has been installed with adjustments and corrections made based on Canon City Water Department input. Bacteriological testing of the waterline will occur after 80% curing of the deck concrete and prior to putting the waterline into service.  Miscellaneous waterline-related item installation are forthcoming such as Fire Hydrant, Air Vacuum Valve, and a water service tap.
  • Roadway embankment construction, roadway subgrade preparation, and roadway paving are next. Delineators, guardrails, striping, and fencing follow after that. 
  • The current expected construction end date is still November 7th.
