Fremont County Department of Transportation

The Fremont County DOT has extended the road closures for the Fremont County Airport location at Decker Drive. The closure is scheduled for today, Tuesday, October 27, 2026, for paving.  During this time, Decker Drive will be closed to all traffic with the exception of Airport traffic only. Additional short-term road closures are expected in this area as crews work to complete our drainage project. Please plan accordingly and share with anyone who may need this information. We will continue to notify the public as these road closures are needed. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as our crews work to complete this project.

Fremont County Department of Public Health

Public Health continues to offer our annual mobile flu vaccine clinics. The clinics will run through November 10th.  We are still accepting appointments at our clinic at 201 North 6th Street. Please contact our Public Health Department at 719-276-7450, if you have questions.

Fremont County Department of Public Health & Environment is pleased to announce that we have extended our hours in Vital Records beginning October 19th. Vital Records will operate Monday through Thursday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm with a 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm lunch closure. Veterans Day - Fremont County will honor our Veterans at the BOCC meeting on Tuesday November 10th, 2026.  We have 31 Veterans who work for various departments throughout Fremont County.  We will be providing them lunch and a certificate after the next BOCC meeting to honor them.  In honor of all Veterans the County Administration lighting will change to green for the month of November and the Dept of Human Service Buildings lighting will also be green, from Nov 1 to Nov 12.   

DHS will Change to purple lighting for Adoption Day for the rest of November 13th through 30th.

Fremont County Department of Transportation

Our FCDOT staff completed work on Red Canyon Road/Shelf Road between mile markers 10 and 14, and the road is open to the public. FCDOT staff are currently blading roadways and conducting regular maintenance on County Roads.

Fremont County Department of Public Health

Public Health will kick off our annual mobile flu vaccine clinics on September 30th. The clinics will run from September 30th through November 10th.  We will still accept appointments in our clinic at 201 North 6th Street.

In addition to the flu clinics, Fremont County Department of Public Health & Environment is hosting a regional emergency preparedness meeting with the South Region Healthcare Coalition today at 10:00 am in the Garden Park Conference Room at 201 N. Sixth Street.  This meeting is intended to facilitate evacuation planning and emergency preparedness for long-term care and assisted living facilities from Fremont, Custer, Huerfano, Las Animas, and Pueblo Counties.

Holidays

Fremont County’s 2027 Holiday Schedule has been drafted for your approval.  This year’s schedule ensures all County employees receive a total of 100 hours of paid holiday time, with allocations adjusted to match each employee’s regular work schedule. We have two holiday schedules for Fremont County staff. A 10-hour holiday schedule for staff who work 10-hour workdays and an 8-hour holiday schedule for staff who work an 8-hour workday.

10‑Hour Workday Employees will receive

• 9 paid holidays (10 hours each) = 90 hours
• Floating holiday leave = 10 hours
• Total: 100 hours

8‑Hour Workday Employees

• 10 paid holidays (8 hours each) = 80 hours
• Floating holiday leave = 20 hours
• Total: 100 hours

This approach ensures consistency and fairness across the organization while recognizing the differences in daily work schedules. If approved today, our HR Director will post and distribute the Holiday Calendar for Calendar year 2027.

Fremont County Department of Transportation

Our FCDOT staff are continuing to work on roadway repairs from washouts due to the heavy rains in recent weeks on Red Canyon Road/Shelf Road between mile markers 10 to 14.  The road will be closed (both lanes) again beginning today, Tuesday, September 8, 2026, through Thursday, September 10, 2026.  They are also still blading roadways and fixing flooding damage on CR 143, CR 45, CR 2, and various washouts

Fremont Search and Rescue Ribbon Cutting

The Commissioners are hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the completion of our new Search and Rescue Building. The event is scheduled for tonight, beginning at 6 pm at 1901 E. Main Street in Canon City. The Royal Gorge Chamber Alliance will conduct the Ribbon-Cutting, and we will provide refreshments and tours of the new building.

Fremont County Department of Transportation

The Fremont County DOT is conducting roadway striping throughout the county and they are currently working in the Oak Creek Grade area. Back to School

Just a friendly reminder that the first day of school is quickly approaching for all Fremont County School Districts, which means school buses will be picking up and dropping off children in our communities and additional vehicles will be on our roadways in the early mornings, during lunch and afternoons. Please slow down in those school zones and watch for students and teachers in the crosswalks throughout Fremont County. 

Fremont County Employee Appreciation Picinic  

The Fremont County Elected Officials will be hosting their annual Fremont County Employee Appreciation Picinic next Wednesday, August 19th, from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. on the lower level of the County Admin Building. This annual luncheon is just one way the elected officials show how much they care about the staff who work for Fremont County.  The Elected Officials look forward to seeing all county staff at this event!!
