• Pathfinder Park

  We have hired a new Pathfinder Park Events Center Coordinator. Her name is Breanna Garner and she is from Canon City and lives in Fremont County. She is the current Assistant Store Manager for City Market and has been employed there since 2015. Her first day will be January 20th, and we are very excited for her to begin her employment with us and start serving Fremont County citizens in a new capacity. 

   

• Department of Human Services

  The DHS will be closed on January 22, 2026, all day for their quarterly staff Professional Development Day. They will reopen on Friday, January 23 at 730 am for normal business. 

   

• County closure

  And finally, just a reminder that Fremont County Government offices will be closed all day on January 19th in observance of the Martin Luther King holiday.

Department of Transportation (DOT)

UPDATE-The Fremont County DOT has completed repairs to Bridge 209A on CR 19 (Siloam Road south of Florence) and the roadway is now open for travel. 

The Fremont County DOT will be conducting repairs to bridge 209A on CR 19 at mile marker 3.7.  CR 19 will be closed at this mile marker in both directions: (no foot, bike, or vehicle traffic) from Monday December 8, 2025 through Thursday December 18, 2025.  Detours will be in place directing traffic to CR 106.  Please plan accordingly for your commute and feel free to share with anyone else who may need this information.  We appreciate your patience and cooperation while crews work to complete the repairs needed!

Administration Building Holiday Decoration

I just want to mention again that our facilities staff recently decorated the administration building for Christmas and it truly looks beautiful.  I would like to thank Randy Toler and Evelyn Cambell for coordinating this event with their staff and making the building feel like Christmas. I would like to encourage all Fremont County residents to stop by the administration building and enjoy the decorations, which will be up through the end of the year. 

Colorado Counties Inc. - Winter Conference

Last week I attended the annual CCI Winter Conference in Westminster, CO, with our three commissioners.  I learned a lot from the different sessions, but more importantly, I just wanted to let everyone know how lucky Fremont County is to be represented by these three individuals.  They provide leadership and experience for the newer commissioners throughout the State, sit on many different committees (past & present), and provide excellent feedback, when asked or is necessary.

Department of Transportation (DOT)

Fremont County DOT has completed repairs to bridge 17-230 in Phantom Canyon, and the road was reopened to the public last Wednesday, November 19, 2025, sooner than planned. We appreciate your patience and cooperation while crews completed the decking repairs to this bridge. We still need to re-deck Bridge 17-225, and these repairs will be scheduled in 2026. 

Fremont County Airport

The Taxiway Rehabilitation Project 

The airport’s Taxiway A2, A3, A5, A6 Rehabilitation Project is almost complete.  A 3-inch asphalt milling and pavement overlay took place November 11th through the 14th.  Installation of retroreflective markers and hydroseeding will take place next week.  The project cost approximately $900,000 and was funded 95% FAA grants, 2.5% CDOT matching grants, and a 2.5% local match.

Taxiway A3 was constructed in 1991 and Taxiways A2, A5, and A6 were constructed in 1995.  This is the first major rehabilitation these taxiways have received since they were constructed.  Below is a before and after picture.

Holiday Decorations

The Fremont County Custodial and Facilities Staff has beautifully decorated the Administration Building for the Christmas season.  Please come down to 615 Main Street and enjoy the fabulous decorations!

Department of Transportation (DOT)

Just a continued reminder that Fremont County DOT closed Phantom Canyon Road from October 27, 2025, through December 27, 2025, to re-deck/repair 2 bridges.  During this time, no one will be allowed to pass thru, including any tours or bicyclists, as there will be no deck to carry traffic.  We will have signage indicating closure, as well as a “last turn-around” sign, to ensure the public is fully aware of the closure. The Public will have the opportunity to turn around at the 230 bridge on mile marker 22.
