Update on the 24 Fire
The Fremont County Emergency Operation Center (EOC) remains open. Residents were allowed to come home starting yesterday afternoon at 2 pm, but still are considered to be in a Pre-Evacuation status until we get an update. Repopulation went smooth into the evening last night. We will continue to monitor and support local needs and the fire command's needs or resource requests. Hotline calls continue to come in and messages left are being followed up with. Highway 115 is still closed with daily reevaluations.
As of 2000 hrs., last night the 24 Fire Incident Commander said the fire remained at approximately 7,385 acres and containment increased to 24%. This is the result of the day crews' hard work, and strengthening control lines around the fire. Great progress was made along Highway 115 with crews conducting mop-up, tree removal, and clean-up. Crews along the north, east, and south control lines completed interior firing operations and made good progress on mop-up along the roads. Firefighters, equipment and vehicles will be visible along all control lines, with a heavy presence along the Highway 115 corridor. Please call the EOC Hotline number in case you have any questions or concerns, and that number is 719.276.7421
Tonight at 600pm, there is a Town Hall meeting at the Penrose Elementary School, to provide updates and answer any questions or concerns residents have. I want to thank all parties involved in this incident for their leadership, collaboration, and execution that went into ensuring a successful outcome for this fire. We truly appreciate the support in protecting our Penrose Community.
I also can't begin to thank the numerous people who so generously donated cases of water and Gatorade, donuts, snacks, etc., for the folks on the frontline doing such great work. I am always so impressed and humbled by the generosity of our community.
