Fremont County Department of Transportation
Our FCDOT staff are continuing to work on roadway repairs from washouts due to the heavy rains in recent weeks on Red Canyon Road/Shelf Road between mile markers 10 to 14. The road will be closed (both lanes) again beginning today, Tuesday, September 8, 2026, through Thursday, September 10, 2026. They are also still blading roadways and fixing flooding damage on CR 143, CR 45, CR 2, and various washouts
We appreciate your patience and cooperation as our crews work to maintain our roadways and keep them safe for our citizens!
Fremont County Department of Public Health
Public Health will kick off our annual mobile flu vaccine clinics on September 24th. The clinics will run from September 24th through November 10th. We will still accept appointments in our clinic at 201 North 6th Street. If you have questions, please contact our Public Health Department at 719-276-7450.

Fremont Search and Rescue Ribbon Cutting
The Commissioners are hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the completion of our new Search and Rescue Building. The event is scheduled for tonight, beginning at 6 pm at 1901 E. Main Street in Canon City. The Royal Gorge Chamber Alliance will conduct the Ribbon-Cutting, and we will provide refreshments and tours of the new building.

Roadways will remain open while they work, with the use of pilot vehicles and signage to alert the traveling public. Please use caution when traveling in these areas. Just a friendly reminder that the first day of school is quickly approaching for all Fremont County School Districts, which means school buses will be picking up and dropping off children in our communities and additional vehicles will be on our roadways in the early mornings, during lunch and afternoons. Please slow down in those school zones and watch for students and teachers in the crosswalks throughout Fremont County.

The Fremont County Elected Officials will be hosting their annual Fremont County Employee Appreciation Picinic next Wednesday, August 19th, from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. on the lower level of the County Admin Building. This annual luncheon is just one way the elected officials show how much they care about the staff who work for Fremont County. With the strong storms we have been having the past week, I have heard many comments about how good the ground is at the Rodeo Arena, so I want to give a shout out to our Director at Pathfinder Park, D’Wayne Gaymon, and our facilities staff who are doing a great job of keeping the rodeo arena in such great shape for the Fremont County Fair.

Department of Human Services
- The Department of Human Services will be closed on Thursday, July 23, for a Professional Development Day for all staff. They will open Friday morning at 730 am for normal business.
We were notified last night of a broken water main on Greenwood Ave, between 6th and 7th streets. The road is temporarily closed to thru traffic while the Canon City Water Department is working to fix the problem. Thanks for your patience and cooperation.

Fremont County Holiday Closure Notice
Fremont County Government offices will be closed in observance of Independence Day. Please note the staggered closure dates:
- County Administration Building: Closed Thursday, July 2nd
- Department of Human Services: Closed Friday, July 3rd
The County Administration building will be lit in red, white, and blue for July in honor of the 250th anniversary of the United States of America and the 150th anniversary of the state of Colorado.
