Virtual Community Run/Walk Supporting Invasive Species Awareness and Restoration
The Upper Arkansas Cooperative Weed Management Area (UACWMA), in partnership with Fremont Conservation District, is hosting the 2026 UACWMA Invasive Challenge 5K.
This virtual community event is designed to promote outdoor activity while increasing awareness of invasive species impacts and restoration efforts throughout the Upper Arkansas region.
Participants may complete the 5K by walking, running, or hiking at their own pace between May 25 and July 4, 2026.

Event Information
Participants who complete the challenge will receive a commemorative finisher medal featuring Russian olive (Elaeagnus angustifolia), an invasive species commonly found along waterways throughout Colorado and the western United States.
The Russian olive medal is intended to be the first in an annual educational series highlighting different noxious weeds and invasive species affecting Colorado landscapes and ecosystems.
Purpose of the Event
The event supports:
- Invasive species awareness
- Habitat restoration education
- Community conservation outreach
- Public engagement with local natural resource issues
Medal Delivery Options
Participants may choose either:
- Medal shipping by mail for an additional shipping fee
- Free local medal pickup in the Canon City area after event completion
