Volunteer Boards

We welcome and encourage volunteers to all our Boards and Committees; however, it is limited to one member of an immediate family on each Board or Committee.

4-H Sale Committee

The sole purpose of the Sale Committee is to plan, market, and carry out the 4-H Livestock Sale at the Fremont County Fair unless other duties are assigned by the Fair Board.

This is a 3 year term and consists of a 9 member Board.

Airport Advisory Board

The Fremont County Airport Advisory Board is a voluntary organization formed to consult with and advise the Fremont County Board of County Commissioners on various issues concerning the development and operation of the Fremont County Airport. 

This is a 3 year term and consists of a 7 member Board.

Board of Appeals

Shall be persons who are qualified by experience and training to pass upon matters pertaining to building construction.  The Board's purpose is to hold hearings on decisions made by the Building Department in relation to inspections based on code or standards.

This is a 3 year term and consists of a 5 member Board, with 1 alternate.

Board of Zoning Adjustment

Any zoning resolution of the board of county commissioners may provide the board of adjustment, in appropriate cases and subject to appropriate principles, standards, rules, conditions, and safeguards set forth in the zoning resolution, may make special exceptions to the terms of the zoning regulations in harmony with their general purpose and intent. Where feasible, special exception may be made for the purpose of providing access to sunlight for solar energy devices. The board of county commissioners may also authorize the board of adjustment to interpret the zoning maps and pass upon disputed questions of lot lines or district boundary lines or similar questions, as they may arise in the administration of the zoning regulations.

This is a 3 year term and consists of a 5 member Board, with 1 alternate.

Fair Board

The purpose of the Fremont County Fair Board shall be the planning and conducting of the Fremont County 4-H / FFA and Open Fair.

This is a 3 year term and consists of a 15 to 21 member Board.

GIS Authority

The purpose of the Authority is to ensure the Fremont County Regional GIS Authority serves its clients in all GIS related mapping duties in an efficient and effective manner.

This is a 2 year term and consists of a 2 member Board.

Heritage Commission

The Fremont County Heritage Commission (FCHC) has been charged with the Identification, Designation, Education, and Promotion of historic features of Fremont County.  The mission is to identify, educate and promote Fremont County’s rich heritage.

This is a 3 year term and consists of a 9 member Board.

Library Board of Trustees (John C. Fremont)

The sole purpose of the Board of Trustees is to serve as the Board of Directors for the Library.

This is a 5 year term with a 2 term limit, and consists of a 5 to 7 member Board.

Library Board of Trustees (Penrose)

The sole purpose of the Board of Trustees is to serve as the Board of Directors for the Library.

This is a 5 year term and consists of a 5 member Board.

Planning Commission

The Planning and Zoning Department is the liaison for the Planning Commission.  All applications for Sketch Plan, Preliminary Plan, Minor Subdivision, Vacation of Public Rights-of-way, Zone Change, Conditional Use Permit and Special Review Use Permit are reviewed by the Planning Commission at a public meeting who then make recommendations to the applicant and or Board of County Commissioners.

This is a 3 year term and consists of a 7 member Commission.

Tourism Council

The purpose of the Fremont County Tourism Council is to develop and administer a Tourism Marketing Plan for Fremont County utilizing the proceeds from the Fremont County Lodging Tax.

This is a 3 year term and consists of a 7 member Council.

Weed Advisory Board

The Fremont County Weed Advisory Board hereafter referred to as the “Weed Board” is organized to advance the interests of agriculture and other local land uses in the application and improvement if the Noxious Weed Management Plan for Fremont County including the Cities of Canon City and Florence.

To promote and advance a comprehensive weed control program, concerning uniformity in services and proper Integrated Pest Management to enhance product quality and control for the citizens, landowners and land managers of Fremont County, Colorado. To take an active part in education and communication measures, concerning weed control and any broadened field of subsides to support and enhance the projects of the Fremont County Weed Management Director.

To formulate and express approval or disapproval of policy measures when the need arises. To review and respond to any proposed local law or ordinance concerning weed control measures or amendments that may be considered by the Fremont County Board of Commissioners.

The Weed Board and the Fremont County Weed Management department are encouraged to maintain memberships in CWMA and other organizations. Dues associated with annual memberships will be considered part of the Fremont County Weed Management budget.

This is a 3 year term and consists of a 10 member Board.
