General Election mail ballots from the Fremont County Clerk’s Office have begun arriving in mail boxes of qualified Fremont County voters. Fremont County Clerk & Recorder Katie Barr says her staff mailed those ballots to voters last week who previously signed up to receive all of their future ballots through the mail. Barr says 61 percent of active voters in Fremont County signed up to receive mail ballots. Voters should follow the instructions and make sure the mail ballots are properly signed and returned to the Clerk’s Office by 7:00 p.m. on Election Day, November 6th.
Barr says a mistake was made in printing the mail ballot instructions. She said voters do not have to provide a photo identification with their mail ballot unless their ballot has a purple stripe across the ballot. Barr says mail ballots can be returned by mail, placed in a drop box in her office, or put into a drop box at the various polling places on Election Day.
Two weeks of early voting is also began on Monday, October 22nd. Voters who do not receive their ballots in the mail can vote early on the lower level of the Fremont County Administration Building at 615 Macon in Cañon City. Barr says hours for early voting will run from 7:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday from October 22nd through November 1st.
Barr also reminds voters who want to vote on Election Day, November 6th, to check their voter registration verification postcard that was mailed to voters several weeks ago. Those postcards contain information regarding a voter’s precinct and polling place.
