December 8th Commissioners Meeting

Formal adoption of the 2010 Fremont County budget and approval of a pair of Special Review Use permits highlighted business before the Fremont County Commissioners today.

The Board of Commissioners approved the budget resolution taking into account $35,032,000 in revenue and proposed spending in the combined county funds. The Commissioners noted that many of the revenues that make up the budget come from sources other than local taxes including federal and state money for various Social Services, Health Department, Road and Bridge, and Conservation Trust funds.

Citizens Invited to Radon-Indoor Air Quality Program

Pueblo Community Action for a Renewed Environment (CARE), the Fremont County Board of Commissioners, and Fremont County Environmental Health are hosting an informational presentation about indoor air quality on Thursday, December 10th, at 6:30 p.m. The event will be held at the Garden Park High School located at 201 N. 6th Street in Canon City.

The evening session will focus primarily on radon, but information will be available on mold, lead, and household hazardous chemicals, as well. The topics to be covered in the session include:

A Wet October for Canon City

For the fifth straight month Canon City saw above normal precipitation during October with total moisture so far in 2009 more than three inches above normal. Fremont County Commissioner Ed Norden, Canon City's Cooperative Weather Observer for the National Weather Service, said the October precipitation total of 1.88 inches was 1.11 inches above normal. The 8.6 inches of October snowfall in Canon City was 6.2 inches above normal. After experiencing below normal precipitation from February through May, Canon City has seen precipitation total significantly above average since June.

Phantom Canyon Audio Tour

The production of an audio guided driving tour of the Phantom Canyon Scenic Byway across Fremont and Teller Counties has been completed and is available for purchase locally. The Gold Belt Tour Scenic and Historic Byway Committee arranged for the production of the audio CD.

Letters Sought for Tourism Council Appointments

The Fremont County Board of Commissioners is soliciting letters of interest from Fremont County residents for the annual appointment to fill three positions on the Fremont County Tourism Council (FCTC). The Tourism Council develops and administers a Tourism Marketing Plan for Fremont County utilizing the proceeds from the Fremont County Lodging Tax.
