August 10th Board of Commissioners Meeting

The Fremont County Board of Commissioners lifted the countywide fire ban at Tuesday’s regular board meeting upon a recommendation from Sheriff Jim Beicker.    Sheriff Beicker said he believed that recent rainfall across the county had adequately reduced the wildfire danger allowing the fire ban to be lifted.   However the Sheriff cautioned residents that they should continue to exercise extreme caution because conditions could change rapidly with any onset of hot, dry weather.

Openings Available on Airport Advisory Board

The Fremont County Commissioners are accepting letters of interest from persons interested in serving on the Fremont County Airport Advisory Board.  Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of March, June, September and December at 7:00 a.m.  If you have a background in aviation and are interested in serving on the board, mail or deliver a letter of interest to:

Flow Contained on New Park Center Artesian Well

Hydro Resources Colorado successfully contained the water flow from the new Park Center Well late Saturday afternoon.   Water had been flowing from the well at a rate of 1,600-2,000 gallons per minute when Hydro Resources hit an unexpected high pressure during drilling operations on August 1st.   The drill site is located near the original 80-year old Park Center Well, five miles north of Cañon City along Garden Park Road.

Special Hours for Receiving Mail Ballots

The Fremont County Clerks Office has announced special hours this weekend to accommodate voters who want to drop off their mail ballots in time for Tuesday evening’s ballot deadline for the primary election.   County Clerk Norma Hatfield said that in compliance with state law the Clerk’s Office will be open this Friday and Saturday for voters to drop off their mail ballots.   Because the County Administration Building is typically closed both days, voters will be required to use the west entrance.    The west entrance will be open from 9 until 3 both Frida

Commissioners’ Statement Regarding Planning Commission Issues

(The following statement was issued on behalf of the Board of Commissioners by Commission Chairman Ed Norden at the July 13th board meeting)

I’d like to say something on the record in the aftermath of last Wednesday’s Fremont County Planning Commission meeting and an opinion piece that appeared in Saturday’s Daily Record (Paul Maye-July 10th edition).   Let me say that I would not be making these remarks if letters sent to Planning Commission members had not been discussed publicly last Wednesday.   

July 13th Commissioners Meeting

The Fremont County Commissioners approved a bid award for installation of a new phone system in the county’s Administration Building, voted to modify speed limits on Copper Gulch Road, and tabled consideration of amendments to the Fremont County Zoning Resolution that deal with wind energy systems and contractor's yards at the board's regular July 13th meeting.
