After fielding complaints over the decision by the Colorado Department of Transportation to close a crossover in a Highway 50 median west of Penrose, the Fremont County Board of Commissioners asked Region 2 CDOT officials to explain their decision to the board and citizens at Tuesday’s regular meeting. CDOT Traffic Engineer Sasan Delshad of Pueblo explained that the action being taken is based on documented accidents that have occurred over recent years at the crossover in front of the newly opened Pikes Peak Motor Company. Upper Arkansas Recycling, the regional recycling program that serves Fremont County, is hosting an Electronics Recycling Event in Cañon City this Saturday, September 20th. During the event, Fremont County residents will be able to recycle latex paint, and a wide variety of electronics-from televisions and stereos to computers and microwaves.
The owners of Shadow Hills Golf Course and Restaurant again hold the liquor license for their operation. The Fremont County Board of Commissioners approved a hotel and restaurant liquor license at their September 9th meeting for Holt Family Recreation LLC doing business as The View at Shadow Hills.
The Fremont County Board of Commissioners is seeking letters of interest from those who wish to serve as a Director on the Board of the Penrose Parks and Recreation District.
The Board of Commissioners has been informed that there are no duly-elected Directors of the Penrose Park and Recreation District at this time. Therefore, the Board expects to appoint five persons to serve as Directors. According to state statute, the new Directors will have six months to organize and hold an election to duly elect Directors.
The Fremont County Commissioners will go to the voters in November and ask for approval to lift Tabor revenue limits as the county continues to recover from the recession. The ballot proposal comes with one year remaining on the eight year “Tabor Time-out” which Fremont County voters approved in 2007. The 2007 ballot question gave Fremont County the authority to keep any property tax revenues in excess of Tabor growth and inflation calculations. The Colorado Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) has announced that the Combined Regional Communications Authority (CRCA) that local governments in Fremont County formed to consolidate dispatch operations has been awarded an Energy and Mineral Impact Assistance grant in the amount of $830,045. The announcement was made by DOLA’s Executive Director Reeves Brown who indicated that the new public safety dispatch center was awarded the full amount of grant funding requested by the CRCA governing board.
