Commissioners OK Rivers of Recovery Permit for Vets

Over the objections of Swissvale neighbors who complained that their privacy is being threatened, the Fremont County Commissioners on Tuesday approved a Special Review Use permit for the Rivers of Recovery (RoR) outdoor experience for veterans.   Dan Cook of Rivers of Recovery explained at the public hearing that the outdoor camping and fishing experience on his 13 acres of private property on the north side of the Arkansas River at Swissvale is one of seven such programs for veterans across the nation.  He explained that the program has proven beneficial for veterans sufferi

2013 Sales Tax Report Reflects Steady Recovery

While Fremont County's sales tax collections have been steadily increasing this eight year sales tax chart reflects that the $3.8 million collected in 2013 indicates the county is just now returning to the pre-recession levels of revenue in 2008.

Commissioners Vote to Withdraw from Regional Dispatch IGA

After listening to Fremont County Sheriff Jim Beicker detail his frustration over the inability to make any progress towards a regional dispatch center over the past five months, the Fremont County Board of Commissioners voted at their February 11th meeting to withdraw from an intergovernmental agreement (IGA) intended to create the center.    Sheriff Beicker explained that he still believes it’s important for Fremont County to have a single dispatch center but that withdrawing from the IGA may be the best way to accomplish that goal.
