Commissioners Adopt 2013 Fremont County Budget

The Fremont County Commissioners took final action at their December 11th regular meeting to adopt the county’s 2013 budget.   Because revenues are not keeping pace with expenses the county’s 2013 budget will again rely on reserve funds to bring it into balance.   Expenditures in the general fund portion of the county budget are targeted at $11,269,000.   A copy of the county’s 2013 budget can be reviewed in detail on the county’s web site at www.fremontco.com.

2012 Statistics on Code Enforcement & Road Maintenance Shared with Commissioners

Fremont County’s Code Enforcement Officers told the Board of Commissioners last week that while the number of code enforcement complaints for 2012 are down they remain busy with violation site visits, waste tire cleanups, and Special Mobile Machinery (SMM) registration enforcement.   Code Enforcement Officers Ron Zenisky and Robert Sapp told the Commissioners that they have received 40 complaints regarding code violations so far in 2012 which is ten fewer than in 2011.    Eighteen of the code violations are still active for enforcement efforts.

December Planning Commission Agenda

Balancing 2013 County Budget will Rely on Reserves

Fremont County will face another difficult budget year ahead for 2013.    Fremont County Manager George Sugars and the Board of Commissioners laid out the details of another tight budget at the November 13th budget hearing.   Sugars explained that while some statewide estimates project Colorado sales tax growth at four percent for 2013 the Board of Commissioners decided to be conservative and estimate a sales tax revenue increase of just one percent next year.   Sugars noted that even with sales tax revenue increases in 2012, Fremont County is just now get

Commissioners Approve Liquor Licensing Penalties and Hearings

For the first time the Fremont County Board of Commissioners will have a set of guidelines for conducting hearings and establishing penalties for liquor license violators in Fremont County.    The Board of Commissioners adopted a resolution at their November 13th meeting putting into place the authority the county will exercise over liquor license violations.    County Attorney Brenda Jackson said that in the past Boards of Commissioners have never brought a liquor licensee in to face a violation and penalty hearing because for the most part many of the bars we

Applicants Sought for Penrose seat on Planning Commission

The Fremont County Board of Commissioners is accepting letters of interest from citizens wishing to serve on the Fremont County Planning Commission.   The Commissioners will be appointing someone to fill a vacancy for a seat that has been held by Steve Smith of Penrose.   Mr. Smith has decided not to seek reappointment.   Because Smith serves in the seat which typically has represented Penrose, the Board of Commissioners is encouraging letters of interest from Penrose area residents.

Tourism Council Accepting Applications for Community Grants

The Fremont County Tourism Council is accepting applications from community organizations for 2013 tourism funding allocations. Community organizations and non-profit groups that conduct special events which attract tourists and visitors to the area are invited to submit applications for funding assistance. The Tourism Council by-laws require that at least five percent of Fremont County lodging tax revenues each year be distributed to community groups to support their special events.
