Commissioners OK Bulk Propane Storage Facility

The Fremont County Board of Commissioners this week approved a Special Review Use Permit to allow a bulk propone storage facility to be located on property along Highway 120 east of Florence.   The site is owned by Aercrete Land LLC which plans to eventually manufacture aercrete building materials on the site.   35 acres of the property is being split off for the bulk propane storage which would consist of 48 large propane tanks with a storage capacity of 1.44 million gallons.  The property is located on the north side of Highway 120 on the site of the old Domtar gy

Early Voting Underway in Fremont County

General Election mail ballots from the Fremont County Clerk’s Office have begun arriving in mail boxes of qualified Fremont County voters.    Fremont County Clerk & Recorder Katie Barr says her staff mailed those ballots to voters last week who previously signed up to receive all of their future ballots through the mail.   Barr says 61 percent of active voters in Fremont County signed up to receive mail ballots.   Voters should follow the instructions and make sure the mail ballots are properly signed and returned to the Clerk’s Office by 7:00 p.m.

Commissioners Table Amendment to Subdivision Regulations

The Fremont County Commissioners said at their October 9th regular meeting that they want more time to review language in a proposed amendment to the county’s subdivision regulations.   The Board of Commissioners conducted a public hearing on the amendment which relates to requirements for submittal of sketch plans by developers.    Sketch plans are being proposed as a way for a developer to present a concept of what is envisioned for a project without completing final engineered details of every aspect of the project.  Commission Chair Debbie Bell said the Com

Family Resource Website an Overwhelming Success

The Fremont Interagency Oversight Group (FIOG) in June 2012 created a family focused resource website at www.fremontfamilyresources.org.  The goal of the website is to provide easy, convenient, and up to date comprehensive listings of local services and agencies that serve families with children.  From the time the website was promoted to the community as being available the FIOG’s expectations was to average a couple hundred visits per month.

Commissioners Invite Comment on Ambulance Licensing

Fremont County Commissioner Ed Norden has urged citizens who have any concerns about ambulance service in western Fremont County to appear before the Board of Commissioners at their October 9th board meeting.    Norden announced at the September 25th meeting of the Commissioners that the board will consider renewal of all ambulance licenses in the county at that meeting.   Norden said the Commissioners’ Office has received phone calls in recent weeks voicing concerns about Arkansas Valley Ambulance (AVA) being out of service for a period of time.   Norden

Planning Commission to Consider Bulk Propane Facility

The Fremont County Planning Commission will consider an application for a bulk propane fuel storage facility east of Florence at their October 2nd monthly meeting.   The application for the Special Review Use Permit is being made by Aercrete Land doing business as Fremont Land Partners.    The property owners want permission to allow development of a Colorado Propane Supply Distribution facility on their property.   If the permit is approved, Colorado Propane would locate 48 bulk propane storage tanks on the 35 acre site which is industrially zoned and loc

Voter Registration Deadline Approaching

Colorado residents have only a matter of days left to register to vote in this November’s General Election.   Fremont County Clerk and Recorder Katie Barr reminds citizens that Tuesday, October 9th, is the deadline for voter registration.   Barr says there are approximately 31,000 registered voters in Fremont County.   But of that total only 19,900 are considered “active” voters and eligible to vote in the November 6th election.

Commissioners Approve Resolution Opposing Legalization of Marijuana

The Fremont County Board of Commissioners went on record at their September 11th regular meeting in opposition to Amendment 64 on the Colorado General Election ballot which would legalize marijuana use in Colorado.   The commissioners approved a resolution stating their opposition to the amendment citing various potential negative impacts to the state and Colorado citizens.

Master Plan Survey Deadline is Monday

Fremont County residents who want to have a voice in the county’s vision for the next 20 years and the direction the county should take on land use issues have only a few days left to participate in a County Master Plan survey.   The Fremont County Planning Commission formulated the survey to gather a broad spectrum of citizen input.   So far some 150 people have completed the survey forms either over the internet or turned in a printed survey form.
