Temporary Closures on Central & Dozier for Maintenance

The Fremont County Department of Transportation is alerting motorists that a portion of Central Avenue and Dozier Avenue on the northeast side of Cañon City will be closed this Wednesday and Thursday (May 9th & 10th) for maintenance.    Transportation Director Tony Adamic says crews will be cleaning the barrow ditches along Central and Dozier which require the streets to be closed between the intersection of Drake and Central to the intersection of Van Loo and Dozier.    Only local traffic will be allowed access between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Sheriff Details Courtroom Video Improvements to Commissioners

Fremont County Sheriff Jim Beicker told the Board of Commissioners Tuesday that long awaited security improvements have been installed at the Fremont County Judicial Building.    Sheriff Beicker said the new video conferencing equipment has been installed in the first floor courtroom of the Judicial Building.   The Sheriff said the security enhancement means that inmates can remain within the secure section of the jail thereby saving time and money by not having more detention officers tied up with transporting inmates to court.

Planning Commission to Hear Razor Ridge Zone Change Request

A proposed zone change for the Razor Ridge property next to the Skyline Drive entrance west of Cañon City will be considered by the Fremont County Planning Commission at their monthly meeting on May 1st.    Property owner Joseph Bower is seeking a zone change from Business to Rural Highway Business for the 17 acre parcel of property.    The zone change would allow Arkansas River Tours rafting to operate out of one of the buildings on the property.    Rafting operations are currently prohibited within Fremont County’s Business Zone.   In

Fremont Public Health & Local Libraries Support Family Reading

The Fremont County Public Health Agency, Canon City Public Library, Penrose Community Library, the John C. Commissioners Adopt Airport Rules & Regulations

After a process that began in the summer of 2011, the Fremont County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday voted to adopt a set of Rules and Regulations governing operations at the Fremont County Airport.   The Board conducted a public hearing at which one lessee at the airport spoke against the need for any regulations.    Told that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requires airport operators to have rules in place, James McCallister told the commissioners that the airport operated fine for many years without demands from the FAA and could continue to do so.&nb

Commissioners Approve Fiscal Services Software Contract

The Fremont County Board of Commissioners approved a contract at their March 27th regular meeting with a new firm to provide software and support services for all of Fremont County’s fiscal operations.   The contract with Tyler Technologies of Lubbock, Texas, is for new software operations for the County Finance Office, the County Assessor, County Treasurer, Public Trustee, and the County Clerk and Recorder.   The most significant change means an upgrade from old DOS technology to a Windows based system.    The county will pay $20,000 for the first year of

Commissioners OK Airport Weather Station Upgrade

The Fremont County Commissioners approved the purchase of $45,000 worth of airport weather station components highlighting a brief agenda of business for the Board’s regular meeting.   After accepting a grant award from the Colorado Board of Aeronautics several weeks ago, the Board of Commissioners Tuesday approved the purchase of upgrade components to the Fremont County Airport’s automated weather observing system.   The purchase price totaled $45,332 with the Vaisala Company.
