Colorado residents have only a matter of days left to register to vote in this November’s General Election. Fremont County Clerk and Recorder Katie Barr reminds citizens that Tuesday, October 9th, is the deadline for voter registration. Barr says there are approximately 31,000 registered voters in Fremont County. But of that total only 19,900 are considered “active” voters and eligible to vote in the November 6th election.
The clerk says there are a number of reasons why you may be considered an inactive voter. If you failed to vote in prior elections your name may have been removed from the active voter list. If you’ve moved and failed to submit a change of address to the Clerk’s Office your last mail ballot may have been returned to the Clerk as “undeliverable”. To make sure that you are properly registered and qualified to vote you can stop at the Clerk’s Office and check the voter registration list. You should submit any updated voter registration information to the Clerk.
Early voting at the Fremont County Administration Building at 615 Macon Avenue in Cañon City will begin on Monday, October 22nd and run through Thursday, November 1st from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday. November 2nd is the last day to apply for an absentee or over the counter ballot at the Clerk’s Office. If you want to vote in person November 6th at your precinct you should verify the location of your polling place. Barr notes that several voting precinct boundaries in Fremont County were changed this year due to redistricting and reapportionment in Colorado.
