Commissioners Conduct First of Two Budget Hearings

Declining property tax revenues and an increased reliance on cash reserves was the budget message shared by Fremont County Manager George Sugars on November 8th when the Board of Commissioners conducted its’ first public hearing on the 2012 proposed county budget.   Sugars said uncertainty in the economy and a decrease in property taxes will make for a very tight budget situation for Fremont County in 2012.

Board of Commissioners Set Budget Hearings

Fremont County Manager George Sugars told the Board of Commissioners Tuesday that after several months of preparation the document on their desks represented a proposed balanced budget for 2012.   Citizens will now have an opportunity to react to the budget blueprint as the commissioners set public hearings on the 2012 proposed budget on the regular meeting dates of November 8th and 22nd.  Commissioner Mike Stiehl urged citizens to take the opportunity beforehand to examine the proposed budget on the internet.   A link to the budget document will be provided on the

Administration Building on Four 10-Hour Days through 2012

Acknowledging lengthy and careful consideration of multiple issues, the Fremont County Board of Commissioners voted at their October 11th regular meeting to adopt a 2012 holiday calendar that will keep the Fremont County Administration Building on a schedule of four 10-hour work days through next year.   District 2 Commissioner Debbie Bell said the issue was one on which she eventually changed her mind from when she first took office.   Bell said it was a difficult decision, but she has found the four 10-hour days to be popular with both county employees and a number of

Black Hawk Donates Two SUV’s to Fremont Sheriff

The Fremont County Sheriff’s Department is the recipient of a pair of aging patrol vehicles from the Town of Black Hawk.   Under Black Hawk’s vehicle replacement program two 2002 Chevy 4 X 4 Blazers, worth about $4,600 each, were donated to the Fremont County Sheriff’s Department.   Each vehicle had an average of 79,000 miles and had reached the end of their useful life for the Black Hawk Police Department.    The cost of removing the old equipment on the patrol cars and preparing the vehicles for a public auction outweighs the benefit according to Black H

State Electrical & Plumbing Inspectors to Remain in County Building

The Fremont County Board of Commissioners has decided to allow Colorado State Electrical and Plumbing inspectors to maintain office space rent free in the Fremont County Administration Building as a service to local citizens.    Fremont County was notified recently by the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies that as a budget cutting move, all leases of office space for the plumbing and electrical inspectors were being terminated with counties across Colorado.

Commissioners Approve Agreement for Emergency Center in Florence

The Fremont County Commissioners have approved an intergovernmental agreement (IGA)with the City of Florence which will officially give Fremont County its’ first Emergency Operations Center (EOC).   The agreement had been in the works for several months.   It would place the necessary computer and communications equipment for an EOC in the Florence Police Department’s training room.   That room has been used in the past for managing several emergency incidents including the search for a missing Florence woman and recent wildfires in Fremont County.  &

Letters of Interest Sought for Airport Advisory Committee

The Fremont County Board of Commissioners is accepting letters from citizens interested in serving on the Fremont County Airport Advisory Committee.    At their regular board meeting this week the commissioners reorganized the terms of the nine members of the Airport Advisory Committee so that all terms have a universal commencement date of October 1st each year.    The commissioners staggered the terms so that three positions would come up for annual appointments every October 1st.

Commissioners Conduct Hearing on Commissioners Redistricting

The Fremont County Board of Commissioners heard no opposition to some minor shifts in boundaries for the three County Commissioner Districts during a public hearing conducted Tuesday.   Colorado statutes require the Board of Commissioners to adjust boundaries of commissioner districts in the year following completion of the U.S. Census so that population numbers are more closely balanced in each district.
