Commissioners Approve 2nd Zip Line in Gorge Region

The Fremont County Board of Commissioners Tuesday approved a second Special Review Use Permit for Royal Gorge Zip Line tours in as many years.   After opening a zip line course along the south side of Highway 50 at the top of Eight Mile Hill west of Cañon City for the summer season of 2011, Ty Seufer is now preparing to open another zip line operation near Parkdale.    The newest operation will again feature 9 zip line cables and another training run cable on a 110 acre site in the canyon directly northwest of the Parkdale River Bridge on Highway 50.  &nbs

CPR-Red Cross First Aid Class

The Fremont County Public Health Agency hosts the first in a series of monthly CPR and First Aid training classes this Thursday, January 12th.    You can enroll for a half day of training for either CPR or First Aid at a cost of $37 for each class.    Or you can attend for the full day and receive both CPR and First Aid training at a cost of $55 for the combined class.    Class fees include all instructional materials and receipt of your CPR-First Aid certification cards upon successful completion of the training.

Commissioners Vote to Vacate County Road in Cotopaxi

The Fremont County Board of Commissioners voted 2 to 1 Tuesday to vacate a county road next to the County Road Shop at Cotopaxi after a property owner argued that the road was on private property and should have never been designated as a county road perhaps some 50 years ago.   The Board of Commissioners voted to vacate County Road 50 which Gerald Mullins has claimed for years that the road sits on his property.   Mullins said the road was probably established decades ago so a local rancher could reach BLM land.    He said from then on neighbors and other
