A Fremont County Building Inspector who took it upon himself to rewrite the county’s regulations for on-site wastewater treatment systems (OWTS) was selected as the 2013 Fremont County Employee of the Year.

Sanders has been employed as a building and septic system inspector for over five years and his nomination letter by a fellow employee noted the work he did in rewriting the county’s OWTS regulations to comply with new standards from the State of Colorado.   The nomination letter said “…he was not asked or required to do this, he knew it was something that needed to be done so he started and finished it on his own!”

The award is presented annually at the close of the year after nominations are submitted by other county employees and the final selection is made by the eight Fremont County elected officials.

Other nominees for the 2013 honor were Francie Mattson, Payroll Coordinator; Erik Sebek, Facilities Technician; Marty Keen, Deputy Assessor; and Matilda Ahkeah, DHS Case Aide III.
