Planning Commission to Hear Three Special Review Applications

The Fremont County Planning Commission will consider three applications for special review use permits when the Commission gathers for its December meeting next Tuesday.

Commission members will hear an application from Royal Gorge Zip Line Tours which wants to operate seven zip line runs on property owned by AJET Ventures in the Eight Mile Hill area.   Anna Seufer is listed as the applicant for the proposed zip line to be located on a 127 acre site along the south side of Highway 50, a half mile east of the junction with County Road 3-A, which is the turnoff to the Royal Gorge.    Seufer wants to operate the zip line seven days a week from March through November.   They plan to shuttle eight to ten people to the zip line site by a van up to four times daily.

The Planning Commission will also consider a request for a special review use permit for the Sporting Times Ranch and Red Horse Bed and Breakfast.   Karen Colburn, Courtney Stevens, and Jacob & Marion Patterson want to operate the bed and breakfast on a 42 acre site north of Cañon City along Garden Park Road 4 ½  miles north of the intersection with Field Avenue.   In addition to the bed and breakfast they want to operate an ‘equitour’ facility with a stable, similar to a guest ranch resort.

The third application to be considered is from Stephen and Lynette Harris who are seeking a permit to operate an off road recreation area north of the Fremont County Airport on the corner just northwest of the junction of Phantom Canyon Road and County Road 123.   The Harris’ want to develop a free style training area for off road motorized vehicles to include a peewee track, an intermediate track, an ATV track, and a special events track.   The Harris’ say the permit is intended for use only by family and friends and is not intended to be open for any public uses.

The Planning Commission meets at 4:00 p.m. next Tuesday, December 7th, in the Commissioners meeting room of the County Administration Building at 615 Macon Avenue in Cañon City.
