A proposal to permit another recreational zip line operation in the Royal Gorge area west of Cañon City will come before the Fremont County Planning Commission at its’ monthly meeting December 6th. Royal Gorge Zip Line Tours operated by Ty Seufer has applied for a special review use permit to install ten more zip line runs on 110 acres located on the north side of the Arkansas River just northwest of the Parkdale Bridge on Highway 50. Seufer and Royal Gorge Zip Line Tours began their first zip line operation last summer on Eight Mile Hill on the south side of Highway 50. With the proposed ten new zip lines, Seufer wants permission for up to 15 customer departures daily during the peak summer season. Each zip line departure would provide a small group experience for eight to ten people. Customers would be shuttled three miles to the site from Seufer’s current zip line base operation at Royal Gorge Rafting and the Whitewater Bar and Grill.
The Planning Commission will also hear a request to vacate 996 feet of what has been designated for many years as County Road 50 in Cotopaxi, but is claimed by a neighboring property owner as private property. The road designation is actually a dirt path next to the Fremont County Department of Transportation’s Cotopaxi Shop and would not affect the easement the county has to access the shop property.
The Planning Commission meets at 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 6th in the County Commissioners Board Room, on the lower level of the Fremont County Administration Building.
