The Fremont County Public Health Agency (FCPHA) assumes responsibilities this week for the local Vital Records Office for Fremont County. Effective March 1st the Public Health Agency, located in the Social Services Building at 172 Justice Center Road in Cañon City, officially assumes the duties of registering and issuing vital records for Fremont County serving as the official link with the Colorado Department of Public Health.
For many years, services for the Vital Records Office were contracted by the county through the Cañon City Main Street Office of Ray Woodard. Beginning today all death certificates and fetal death certificates for twenty weeks and greater gestation, occurring in Fremont County, must be registered at the Public Health Office. The transition period for the transfer of these duties will take place February 27th through the 29th. During this three day period, the FCPHA is asking the public to refrain from requesting certificates so that records may be transferred and personnel trained. Funeral directors may still register certificates and receive permits and certified copies during this time. All other requests made during the transition period may be delayed, but the FCPHA expects to be fully operational by March 1st at which time requests for certificates can be filled.
Office hours for the Fremont County Public Health Agency are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 12 noon, and from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. The phone number is (719) 275-1626.
