Fremont County residents will be receiving their 2011 Notices of Valuation in the mail in the coming days. The Fremont County Assessor’s Office completed the task of mailing the valuation notices Tuesday to all property owners. 2011 is a reappraisal year for all 64 counties in Colorado.
Colorado Lottery Executive Director Abel Tapia told the Fremont County Commissioners Tuesday that since its inception 28 years ago more than $10 million in lottery funds have benefitted Fremont County. Tapia and two Lottery staff members visited the commissioners in what they described as an effort to have face to face conversations with local officials about how lottery funds benefit Colorado. The Fremont County Board of Commissioners conducted five public hearings April 12th highlighted by a hearing on a rewrite of a proposed amendment to the county’s Zoning Resolution regulating contractors’ yards and small wind energy systems. Commission Chairman Ed Norden noted that the board first considered the amendment last fall when letters had been mailed to 99 contractors to seek their input on proposed changes. Fremont County Sheriff Jim Beicker has imposed Stage One Fire Restrictions across all unincorporated areas of Fremont County. The Board of County Commissioners approved a resolution at their April 12th meeting putting a fire ban in place due to the continued dry and windy conditions across southeastern Colorado. The spring drought has resulted in a number of wildland fires being ignited, particularly across the grasslands of eastern Colorado.
The Holcim Cement Plant at Portland, Fremont County, and Geocycle are sponsoring another tire collection day as part of the annual spring cleanup campaign. The Holcim Plant along Highway 120 east of Florence will accept tires from Fremont County residents at no charge from 8:00 a.m.
The Fremont County Board of Commissioners will consider some minor amendments to the policy and rules for the arena at Pathfinder Regional Park including a change in fees charged for use of the arena. The proposed change in fees reflects a desire by the Board of Commissioners to enable more groups and individual to have access to public use of the arena.
