Commissioners Extend Medical Marijuana Moratorium

The Fremont County Commissioners voted at their June 28th regular meeting to extend the moratorium on any new medical marijuana centers in Fremont County for another year while the State of Colorado completes the task of rule making for the centers.    After the 2011 session, the Colorado General Assembly again changed the laws for medical marijuana sales and grow operations.  That means the Colorado Department of Revenue will have to modify its regulations.    A moratorium put into place by the Fremont County Commissioners in June of 2010 was set to expir

Commissioners Issue Disaster Declaration for Duckett Fire

The Duckett Fire was burning hot on Tuesday, June 14th as it moved northwest towards the Eagle Peaks subdivision in Fremont County

The Fremont County Board of Commissioners met in emergency session Tuesday morning, June 21st, and approved a resolution declaring a local disaster and emergency situation in connection with the Duckett wildfire that ignited June 12th and was spreading from Custer County into Fremont County. 

Pathfinder Park Arena Quarantine Lifted

After closing the Pathfinder Park arena for two weeks over concerns with the outbreak of the Equine Herpes Virus (EHV-1) throughout the western U.S., Fremont County officials have decided to reopen use of the arena.     Fremont County Extension Director Tommy Covington said that after conferring with the Board of Commissioners this morning it was decided to again allow scheduled events at the Pathfinder arena.   

June Planning Commission Agenda

The Fremont County Planning Commission will spend their monthly meeting on June 7th discussing issues dealing with updating the county’s master plan.    The Planning Commission has no application reviews to consider on their monthly agenda.   The Commission will choose a new secretary to replace Joe Caruso who recently resigned his City of Florence seat on the Planning Commission due to other time commitments.    Florence City Councilman Larry Baker will attend his first county Planning Commission meeting having been nominated by Florence Mayor Paul V

Commissioners Give OK to Motocross Track

The Fremont County Board of Commissioners Tuesday voted unanimously to approve a Special Review Use Permit to allow Steve and Lynette Harris to continue operating a free style training area for motocross dirt bikes and ATV’s on their property north of the Fremont County Airport.    The site is on 120 acres of private property where the Harrises live on the northwest corner of County Road 123 and Phantom Canyon Road. 

Pathfinder Arena Temporarily Closed Due to Equine Virus

The confirmed outbreak of Equine Herpes Virus (EHV-1) throughout the Western U.S. and Canada has prompted a decision to temporarily close Fremont County’s Pathfinder Regional Park and the Pathfinder Arena to all horse-related events.    Fremont County Extension Director Tommy Covington said that upon learning of similar actions being taken by other counties in Colorado he received a recommendation from veterinarians at Colorado State University Extension to take the same precautions.
