The Fremont County Commissioners Tuesday honored Delores Comstock of Cañon City for her 50 years of service as a Fremont County 4-H leader. The Commissioners adopted a resolution proclaiming Oct. 8, 2013, as "Delores Comstock Day" in Fremont County.
The Commissioners presented Comstock with the signed resolution and an etched glass award for serving the Fremont County 4-H for more than 50 years.
Comstock has volunteered her time to 4-H since 1964 and has "guided thousands of Fremont County 4-H youth to develop leadership, citizenship, responsibility and life skills," the proclamation read.
She has worked with the Fremont County Fair Board, serving in a variety of roles, 20 of those years as president.
"It is very humbling to be recognized for something that has meant so much to me over the years," Comstock said. She said she has watched a number of young people grow and mature and become successful through their involvement in the 4-H program. "I've met and served with so many very special people, including the county commissioners, that are so meaningful to the program," she said.
CSU Extension Agent Verla Noakes said Comstock is the first to be recognized for more than 50 years of service to 4-H in Fremont County, and Tommy Covington, county director, CSU Extension, said it will be a minimum of 18 years before there will be another similar award of longevity in Fremont County.
