Fremont D.O.T. Sponsors 2nd Annual Road-eo

Heavy equipment operators from southern and central Colorado competed in the Fremont County Department of Transportation’s Road-eo on Thursday, August 2nd, during the Fremont County Fair.   FCDOT Supervisor Curtis Stone organized the 2nd annual event giving equipment operators a chance to test their skills in maneuvering heavy machinery against other operators in Colorado.

There were 27 competitors from the City of Cañon City, El Paso County, Fremont County DOT, Pueblo Public Works, Teller County, Summit County, and the Fremont Sanitation District.    Sponsors which made the event possible and provided prizes for the entrants included Colorado Machinery and Mark Lewis, Acorn Petroleum, Litz Auto Supply, Inc., SSR Auto Supply, Jim’s Tire, Suncor, Drive Train, Tezak Heavy Equipment, Cañon City Winnelson, David Crow of Lawson Products, Cobitco, Zimmerman’s Body Shop, City Auto Plaza, Kwik Stop, Skyline Steel, Bubba’s Sporting Goods, Cañon Western Wear, Kagan & Son, Touch of Love, TDS Tires, Palace Drug, A Paradise Salon, and Blades & Bullets.   Colorado Machinery provided some of the new heavy equipment used in the road grader, backhoe, and front end loader competition.

Winners in each event and overall competition included:

  • Front End Loader - - 1st Place: Bryan Boyer-Pueblo Public Works
  • Front End Loader - - 2nd Place: Jake Miles-City of Cañon City
  • Backhoe - - 1st Place:  Mikey Salkied-City of Cañon City
  • Backhoe - - 2nd Place: Pat Long-Fremont County
  • Grader - - 1st Place:  Roger Gordon-El Paso County
  • Grader - - 2nd Place: Kelly Bak-Pueblo Public Works
  • Grand Champion:  Bryan Boyer-Pueblo Public Works
  • Reserve Champion: Mikey Salkield-City of Cañon City

FCDOT extends thanks to all the volunteers who helped coordinate the competition at the Royal Gorge Rodeo Arena.   Special thanks to announcer Kim Fazzino, Boyd Canterbury of the Royal Gorge Rodeo Association, and CSU Extension for preparing the lunch.
