The fraud investigator for the Fremont County Department of Human Services has been honored by the Colorado Welfare Fraud Council as the state’s top fraud investigator. Shelley Poole of Cañon City was honored at the recent Colorado Welfare Fraud Training Conference held in Loveland. Poole was presented with both the Outstanding Individual of the Year Award and the Ted Cole Memorial Award. The Ted Cole Memorial is the most prestigious award handed out by the Welfare Fraud Council.
Poole has been an investigator with the Fremont County Department of Human Services since 1999. She has served on the executive board of the Colorado Welfare Fraud Council for a number of years and has served as the board’s treasurer since 2008.
The Colorado Welfare Fraud Council is committed to the prevention, detection, investigation, prosecution, and recovery of fraudulently obtained public assistance funds. The member investigators work closely with District Attorney’s offices throughout the state to uncover and prosecute welfare fraud.
