The Fremont County Department of Transportation reports that their first Fremont County Equipment Roadeo staged August 4th at the Fremont County Fair was a success. The department reports that 21 entrants from El Paso County, Park County, the City of Cañon City, and Fremont County took part in the competition which involved maneuvering of heavy equipment through various obstacles and against time.
County Department of Transportation Director Tony Adamic and the employees extend thanks to all of our volunteers and sponsors for the work and help they provided in our first annual Equipment Roadeo. Supervisor Curtis Stone was the coordinator for the Roadeo competition. The judges were: Dr. Dorothy Twellman, Debbie Bell, George Sugars, J.R. Phillips, Mike Stiehl, and Katie Barr. Volunteers, timers, and assistants included Don Alder, Debbie Chess, Inez Sluder, Annette Ortega, Doug Biernacki, Jimmy Fazzino, Jimmy Zeleznikar, Mike Shipman, John Frank, Dianne Taylor, Annette Ortega, Grant Chess, Bob Lindley, Gary Weirton, Paul Garrett, and Pat McFarland. Our announcer was Kim Fazzino. Thanks to CSU Extension for making our lunch, Keith Berry for providing our course map, Lisa Ring for tech support, Ed Norden for the sponsorship ads, and Boyd Canterbury for happily coordinating use of the arena.
